This guide has been established to introduce a number of architects that have been influential in the history of Australian residential architecture. In our experience as heritage consultants, we find that important architects are often sadly forgotten overtime. Their contributions are often misunderstood or even overlooked. This tendency is understandable, fashions change and new and exciting architects are entering the market every year, however, it means we risk losing some architecturally significant gems.
The architects we have selected, and the list is by no means complete, are thought to have defined a certain style and/or were well recognised in their time. We hope that our summaries may assist builders, owners and even architects to recognize the important elements of the architect’s work. By understanding the architect’s intent we are better able to conserve, restore or sympathetically add to these buildings. While the majority of our work is located in NSW we have concentrated on architects throughout Australia whose design often influenced builders and designers further afield.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any further information on these architects, their design style and/or their buildings.
