G Rough, Rome, Italy
G-Rough, a member of Design Hotels and by association, a Starwood property, is the sister hotel to the glamorous PalazzinaG in Venice and the second hotel from partners Gabriele Salini and Emanuele Garosci. PalazzinaG was the Italian debut for Philippe Starck in 2009.
The hotel occupies a 16th century, 5-story building with a “Made in Italy” design style that has been described as “rough” authenticity. Features include heavy wood timbered ceilings, thick walls, and layers of patina’d history if not stories to tell. The design concept behind G-Rough is that each floor individually honor an influential 20th century Italian designer from the ’30s to the ’50s. These iconic designers include Ico Parisi, Giò Ponti, Venini, and Seguso.
Each suite has a king bed, courtyard or city view, and free WiFi. Larger suites may include a private terrace, and the Pasquino penthouse suite has a separate living room, kitchenette, clawfoot bathtub, and picture views of the 17th century Sant’Agnese dome.
Hotel amenities include a spa, 24-hour room service, shuttle, meeting room, and a café and bar featuring works of present day Roman artists. There’s also a lifestyle manager (concierge) offering specialized tours of Rome.
