Art Deco Apartment
We were so excited to arrive at the Emil Sodersten designed apartment block and walk into this intact Art Deco apartment. What a joy to have a project to resurrect an original bathroom from this exuberant period. To enhance the stunning golden-glazed original tiles we teamed it with black chevron in the shower and black hexagon on the floor. The next trick was to create a cabinet to bring power and lighting into the room without losing original fabric, these elements were all treated in a contemporary but sympathetic way, balanced off with our selection of an original art deco pendant light so that the bathroom felt complete again. The terrace was also retiled in a sympathetic terrazzo – inspiration taken from the original door threshold. Proving it is possible to maintain authenticity whilst still engaging sympathetic contemporary elements.
